Help! My tortoise's urine is white!!!

Now don't freak out! This is actually perfectly normal, every tortoise owner is going to have this scare at some point during their tortoise's life. The first time this happened to me, I freaked out so much and that's probably what a few of you are doing right now! This is actually just the last stage of protein digestion!

If the urine/dropping is gritty, however, it can be an indication of dehydration (or it may be protein difestion, we just need to rule out the possibilities) which can be fatal. You should bathe your tortoise immediatedly and soak him everyday until the urates begin to pass normally.

If your tortoise is passing this everyday, take this as an early sign of dehydration and continue soaking him, if it persists, take him/her to the vets and get him checked out.
